Subject

Hennepin Health’s 2022 clinical practice guidelines

Background

Hennepin Health’s Clinical Quality Outcomes Committee formally adopted five medical clinical practice guidelines, three behavioral health and two substance use clinical practice guidelines from nationally or locally recognized sources.

Key points

  • Practice guidelines are based on valid, reliable clinical evidence.  At a minimum, the practice guidelines are reviewed and updated at least every two years or more frequently if the guidelines change within the two-year period.
  • The adopted clinical practice guidelines are disseminated to the primary care, behavioral health/substance use and/or medical home providers through the Provider Manual at least every two years or upon any revisions being made.

The 2022 practice guidelines were selected based on two primary factors:

  • Addressing medical and behavioral health/substance use practice areas relevant to the Hennepin Health members.
  • Aligning with the Hennepin Health Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) Prepaid Medical Assistance Program (PMAP)/MinnesotaCare and Hennepin Health – Special Needs BasicCare (SNBC) contracts.

Practice guidelines are found online at hennepinhealth.org/providers/manual. They are as follows:

Medical clinical practice guidelines

  • Diabetes Type 1 and 2: diagnosis and management
  • Pain management: Non-opioid treatment options and opioid management
  • Prenatal/postpartum care
  • Preventive services for adults
  • Preventive services for children/adolescents

Behavioral health/substance use disorder

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) – children/adolescents
  • Treatment of patients with alcohol dependence
  • Treatment of patients with major depressive disorders, children and adults
  • Treatment of patients with schizophrenia
  • Treatment of patients with substance use disorders
